Embrace equity and justice

Move beyond apolitical approaches by confronting risk and taking bold stances.

Why It Matters

Structural oppression undergirds our world’s state of crisis. Those in power build and reinforce harmful systems to hoard political and economic power.

Many donors avoid political, reputational or fiduciary risks. This leads to funding responses that only address the symptoms of crises, and inadvertently bolster the bad actors and oppressive systems that cause and perpetuate crises.

Many philanthropic funders prefer ‘apolitical’ work. Giving for ‘natural disasters’ consistently vastly exceeds giving for ‘complex humanitarian emergencies’
